Indigenous Language Revitalization Program

Indigenous Language Revitalization Program

Language and cultural camps (Blackfoot, Cree, and Michif)

The program will encourage Calgary urban indigenous peoples, to learn, embrace, and share their languages and cultures with other Canadians. This program strengthens the indigenous language by submerging the learner in language immersion activities for each specific age group.

Language immersion and cultural activities are led by fluent speakers (Blackfoot, Cree, and Michif) in order to guarantee cultural and teaching activities immersed in Indigenous language usage.

Blackfoot Instructors: Krista White and Alanna Manybears
Cree Instructor: Ernie Poundmaker
Michif Instructor: Marie Flamand

The Calgary Public Library is a key partner in this Initiative
