Celebrating Métis Week in Alberta!
This week, November 15–22, is Métis Week in Alberta, a time to celebrate and recognize the vibrant history, distinct culture, and many contributions of Métis people.
The week is specifically held at this time to include November 16, a day that solemnly commemorates the legacy of Louis Riel. It is a crucial time for all of us to honour the sacrifices of Métis ancestors and to celebrate the strength and resilience of the Métis Nation.
Culture, History, and Community
Métis culture is a foundational and vibrant part of Canada’s story. From the high-energy fiddle music and the intricate footwork of the Red River Jig to the stunning, symbolic artistry of beadwork, it is a heritage that deserves to be celebrated.
Did you know? The iconic, hand-woven Métis sash is more than just a beautiful symbol. For the Métis Voyageurs, it was a vital multi-tool used as a rope, a key holder, a first-aid kit, and a symbol of their unique identity.
We are happy to join in honouring the deep and lasting spirit of the Métis people. Happy Métis Week!

Happy Métis Week! We honour the rich culture and history of the Métis Nation.
