Volunteer

The Aboriginal Friendship Centre of Calgary (AFCC) relies on the passion and dedication of community members like you to uphold our mission of connection, culture, and support. If you are looking to volunteer for an indigenous organization, AFCC would greatly benefit from your time and skills. Your dedication is invaluable in helping us bring vital programs, feasts, and cultural events to life. We are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive space for everyone.

Why Volunteer?

By volunteering, you directly contribute to strengthening the urban Indigenous community and participating in Reconciliation in action. We offer a variety of roles that allow you to use your unique talents. Whether you are helping organize the Red Dress Traditional Powwow, serving the community at our new Sunalta Hub, or providing support at the one of our various programs for the communty, every hour you give makes a tangible difference.

Opportunities to Volunteer with AFCC

Typical opportunities include:

  • Event Support: Assisting with setup, coordination, and teardown for large gatherings and ceremonies.

  • Community Feasts: Helping prepare and serve food during traditional feasts that bring our people together.

  • Elders Support: Spending time with and assisting our Elders.

  • Outreach & Advocacy: Joining our teams to distribute essential supplies to vulnerable populations.

  • Office & Administration: Lending your organizational skills to help our main office run smoothly.

Understanding the historical context is a vital part of our work. We encourage all our volunteers to read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action to better understand the true impact of their service. Volunteering is not just about giving back. It is about learning, sharing stories, and growing together. When you join our team, you become part of an extended family dedicated to making a real, lasting impact.
