🦅 National Indigenous Veterans Day: Honouring Service, Strength, and Legacy
Today, November 8th, the Aboriginal Friendship Centre of Calgary (AFCC) observes National Indigenous Veterans Day. A crucial day dedicated to honouring the profound courage and dedication of thousands of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Veterans. This day ensures their powerful contributions are rightfully recognized in Canadian history, separately from Remembrance Day (November 11th).
A Legacy of Strength and Skill
Thousands of Indigenous peoples served in every major Canadian conflict. They brought unmatched resilience, specialized skills (such as tracking and scouting expertise), and spiritual strength to the Canadian Armed Forces.
We recognize that their return home was often met with systemic discrimination and the denial of benefits granted to non-Indigenous soldiers. Today, we stand to correct that history and affirm their legacy.
Their legacy is one of honour, enduring strength, and unwavering commitment to the land.
Join Us in Honouring Our Veterans
We invite the entire community to take a moment today to reflect on the immense sacrifices made by these heroes.
