Kanakaa’tsinom — “All Friends Place”
Please review this important EDIC temporary closure update regarding the Elders Drop-In Centre (Kanakaa’tsinom) at the Aboriginal Friendship Centre of Calgary (AFCC). Due to our active moving and relocation timeline, in-person drop-in programs at our previous site are temporarily on pause while we prepare our permanent home.
Details on the EDIC Temporary Closure Update
This transition marks a pivotal milestone for our Elders and seniors. As a proud member of the Alberta Native Friendship Centres Association (ANFCA), the AFCC remains dedicated to cultivating safe, accessible, and culturally grounded gathering spaces across Moh’kinsstis. During this transition period, our team is working hard behind the scenes to prepare a fully owned facility featuring improved accessibility, outdoor gathering areas, and dedicated community parking.
While in-person gatherings at the drop-in centre are temporarily paused, our other core departments—including independent senior living supports at our Housing Services division—continue operating normally. For full background on our traditional activities, prayer circles, and cultural supports, explore our regular AFCC Elder Services directory.
❄️ December Events & Programming Update
We have events planned throughout December! While physical drop-ins are paused during the move, special seasonal events and schedule details will be announced directly on our website and social channels in the coming weeks.
We will share further news regarding our opening dates in the new year. Thank you for your ongoing patience, understanding, and warm support as we prepare our new gathering home.
