Make a Tangible Impact: Volunteer in Calgary’s Urban Indigenous Community

Are you looking for meaningful ways to give back and make a tangible impact? If you want to volunteer in Calgary, the Aboriginal Friendship Centre of Calgary (AFCC) is expanding our team and looking for dedicated individuals to support our core services and seasonal gatherings.

Whether you can give a few hours a month or commit to a few days a week, we have a meaningful role waiting for you.While daytime availability is highly needed right now, we welcome any and all schedules to join our growing family.

Current Opportunities to Volunteer in Calgary

Our volunteers are the heartbeat of the AFCC, providing critical support across multiple departments. When you choose to volunteer in Calgary with us, you join a network dedicated to urban Indigenous advocacy and support, recognized nationally by organizations like the National Association of Friendship Centres.

We are currently recruiting community members to assist with:

  • Essential Daytime Programming: Help us deliver frontline care through food hamper distribution, our hot meal service, and encampment outreach initiatives.

  • Upcoming Community Events: Bring your energy to large-scale gatherings by supporting the upcoming Halloween Family Fun Gathering and our annual Christmas Artisan Market.

  • Cultural Connection Workshops: Assist facilitators and participants during hands-on traditional programming,including our dream catcher workshops.

How to Get Involved and Volunteer in Calgary

Getting started is simple. We host 30-minute virtual orientations every month to introduce you to the AFCC’s mission,outline current volunteer needs, and prepare you to connect with the community.

Our next virtual orientation is Tuesday, October 27th at 7:00 PM. If you cannot make this specific date, no worries—submit your application anyway, and we will register you for the next available session to volunteer in Calgary.

Your Next Steps:

  1. Apply Online: It takes less than 5 minutes to submit your application online. You must submit an application before you can join the orientation.

  2. Attend Orientation: Join your scheduled 30-minute virtual orientation and get ready to connect with the community.

  3. Start Volunteering: Match your schedule and interests with our current program needs.
