Honouring Through Community and Culture
The powwow is a meaningful way the AFCC encourages reconciliation. We invite you to walk alongside our community in remembrance.
Through sacred songs, traditional dance, and the profound symbolism of the red dress, the event creates cross-cultural understanding. It provides a space to come together to support those who continue to be impacted by the crisis of violence and exploitation.
The National Day of Awareness, also known as Red Dress Day, officially falls on May 5 every year. The movement was inspired by the striking visual of hanging empty red dresses in public spaces to represent the missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people.
Last year, the powwow saw over 1,200 people attend. We look forward to welcoming the community once again to deepen our bonds and continue our shared journey of healing.
