The Smudge Vow Program: A Path to Healing and Reintegration

December 30 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The Aboriginal Friendship Centre of Calgary offers one of the city’s most unique court support programs in Calgary. The Smudge Vow Program is a culturally-rooted crime prevention and reintegration path for adults seeking holistic healing, compassionate guidance, and the tools to build a positive future.

Our approach moves beyond simple crime prevention to address the whole person. We believe that true and lasting change comes from healing the spirit, understanding oneself, and building strong community connections. This philosophy is the foundation of our work and what sets this program apart.

Who Is This Program For?

This is an all-inclusive program for adults (18+) from all backgrounds, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous. Our program is recognized as a valuable resource among court support programs in Calgary, serving individuals on mandated attendance from the justice system. We also warmly welcome any adult who is struggling in life and could benefit from these powerful teachings. We can provide communication of progress and support letters for legal proceedings, and we often work with referrals from partners like Legal Aid Alberta

Our Holistic Approach to Healing

Guided by Elders and cultural ceremony, our program offers teachings and sharing circles on a wide range of vital topics, including:

  • Wellbriety, recovery, and addiction support
  • Anger management and healthy communication
  • Understanding and healing from domestic violence
  • Navigating the court process
  • Life skills development
  • Self-reflection, accountability, and building a positive identity
