The Executive Director Duties

  • Work with the Board of Directors to develop a strategic plan, manage operations and develops an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that work toward the strategic directions of the organization.
  • Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the organizations programs and services, ensure that these programs and services contribute to the organizations mission and reflects the priorities of the Board.
  • Ensure that the operation of the organization meets the expectations of its stakeholders, board and sponsors. That the programs and services reflect the policies required of the organization.
  • Work with staff and the Board to prepare a comprehensive budget. Provide the board with a monthly Budget report on the revenues and expenditure of the organization.
  • Identify, assess and inform the board of internal and external issues that affect the organization.
  • To maintain and build strong relationships with our membership and stakeholders, including but not limited to such entities as our funders.
  • Research funding sources, oversee the development of fundraising, plan and write funding proposals to increase the funds of the organization with grants, sponsorship strategic direction. Write funders reports as requested by funders, stakeholders and sponsors.
  • Determine staffing requirements for the organization. Implement a performance management process for all staff which includes monitoring and managing the performance of staff on an on-going basis and conducting an annual performance review.
  • Volunteer Management: Volunteer recruitment, retention for different functions within the centre
    • Qualifications and Skills

      • Business Management or related field of experience or years of experience
      • Ability to communicate and positively interact with a diversity of stakeholders
      • Proven history of progressive responsibilities leading you to the current capable, mature, and positive leadership capabilities.
      • Knowledge of Human Resources management in Alberta
      • Knowledge of Financial Management and work with accounting program Sage
      • Knowledge of all Federal and Provincial Legislation applicable to employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, charities, taxation
      • Knowledge of non-profit organizations
      • Police Criminal Check- must have a current clearance report along with a vulnerable sector check.
      • Reliable Vehicle a requirement

          • Keeps the friendship centre culturally vibrant by ensuring regular cultural programming is provided to the membership and our community at the centre staff
          • Have the courage, enthusiasm and personal drive to both understand and successfully navigate a dynamic and regionally diverse environment by enhancing relationships with all entities of the organization.
          • Portray effective time management and prioritization abilities. Plan, organize and monitor performance according to priorities with the ability to multi-task
          • Operate with fiscal responsibility demonstrating strong budgeting, business planning and resource management of resources available
          • Have the ability to oversee the organizations operations to ensure efficiency and the quality of service to all
          • Understand ethical behavior and business practices to ensure that all behavior of staff and contracted services is consistent with the standards so it aligns with the values of the organization
          • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with both internal and external to achieve the goals of the organization
          • Develop new and unique ways to improve operations of the organization and to create new opportunities
            • Wages: year to year (as funded) Enumerated depending on qualifications and experience
